what happened.

whatever happened to the old days?
old days where during the summer you would get dirty.
you would play in the mud.
roll in the grass.
play night games.
swim in the irrigated orchard.
have water fights.
play in the sandbox.
take a dunk in the blow up pool in your backyard.
spray each other with the hose.
you know?
its like those things don't even exist anymore.
all kids want to do is stare at a screen.
let me watch a movie.
i want to play on the ipad.
can i play on your phone?
i need to get on the computer.

i don't get it.
i think of my childhood and remember how much we would play outside.
we were outside more than we were inside.
all the neighborhood kids would play tag.
ride around the block on our razor scooters.
all that good stuff.
kid stuff.

i seriously hope my kids aren't asking me for a cell phone at age 7.
even though i know they will.
i want my kids to have a childhood of memories.
not a childhood of headaches from staring at a screen too long.

i know this might seem dramatic.
but its so true.
and its pretty pathetic.

  1. I was thinking the same thing the other day :) You guys had so much fun entertaining yourself (without electronics). I loved watching and playing with you guys! Kid's now seem so high maintainance and boring. Don't give in...and show your kiddos how to have real fun not "bought" fun!! When you have them anyways, hah :) Love ya kiddo!!
